For Attorneys
Your skills can change a life, right here in Contra Costa County
Behind every legal problem is a person: a parent trying to keep a roof over their family, a senior protecting what they’ve spent a lifetime building, or a veteran getting through a system that wasn’t built with them in mind. For many of our neighbors, having an attorney at their side changes how things turn out.
Contra Costa County Justice For All (CCCJFA) runs the Pro Bono Bridge Program in partnership with the Contra Costa County Bar Association (CCCBA). The program connects local attorneys with meaningful pro bono opportunities at nonprofits throughout our community. We do the groundwork so you can spend your time where it matters most.
How it works for attorneys
We work directly with local nonprofits to find their volunteer needs, and we review every opportunity to make sure it meets the State Bar of California’s pro bono requirements. Approved opportunities are posted in two places:
- The California Pro Bono Portal, a free statewide hub where you can search opportunities by practice area, location, and time commitment, then sign up with a few clicks
- The CCCJFA/CCCBA newsletter, which brings local opportunities straight to your inbox
Opportunities range from a single afternoon at an advice clinic to ongoing representation, and many can be done remotely. You can serve in your own practice area or try something new, often with training and mentorship provided.
Getting started
- Visit the California Pro Bono Portal and create your free volunteer profile.
- Search for Contra Costa opportunities that fit your skills, interests, and schedule.
- Sign up and connect directly with the organization.
Why it matters
California attorneys are now asked to report their pro bono hours. The Pro Bono Bridge Program makes it easy to find local service you can count toward those hours. It also helps more people in our community get the legal support they deserve. Your service may even be recognized through the Pro Bono & Community Service Honor Roll or the Justice James J. Marchiano Distinguished Service Award.

For Non-Profits:
Connecting Contra Costa attorneys with the communities who need them most
Every day, nonprofits across Contra Costa County help families, seniors, veterans, immigrants, and small community groups get through challenges that often have a legal side. Many local attorneys want to help but don’t know where their time and skills are needed.
The Pro Bono Bridge Program closes that gap. Contra Costa County Justice For All (CCCJFA) runs the program in partnership with the Contra Costa County Bar Association (CCCBA) to connect nonprofits that need legal volunteers with attorneys who are ready to serve.
How it works for nonprofits
If your organization has a volunteer opportunity for attorneys, tell us about it with our Pro Bono Opportunity Request Form. That could be advice clinics, direct representation, legal workshops, or help with your organization’s own legal needs.
After you submit the form, CCCJFA will review the opportunity to make sure it meets the State Bar of California’s pro bono requirements. Once it’s approved, we’ll share it in two places:
- The California Pro Bono Portal, a statewide hub where attorneys look for and sign up for volunteer opportunities
- The CCCJFA/CCCBA newsletter, which goes directly to local attorneys and the wider Contra Costa legal community
Why it matters
California attorneys are now asked to report their pro bono hours, and many are looking for meaningful ways to serve close to home. Listing your opportunity through the Pro Bono Bridge Program puts your work in front of attorneys who are already looking for a way to help. It also helps more people in our community get the legal support they deserve.
